This album was painfully molded and filtered by self-inflicted limitations in the studio and on the streets over the course of 9 months. My hearing is damaged, posture unpredictable, butt cheeks scarred, lungs blackened and knowledge of dirty dumps increased. Getting to know the maniacal and addictive routines our brains can find, sucking them dry and scurrying seemingly fast to the next spark of new experience. Getting into pickles, LOVING these pickles and finding more. Emerging from these delicious jolts with a bucket of stories.
This is a collection of songs written originally on guitar and vocals and were later recorded with all the other layers. Each song was recorded, produced and layered within one night of awkward and "hard" work. Awkward work because Sloven is an experiment with new limitations. Recording without metronomes, mixing with foreign tools and programs, recording with horrible microphones, getting excited about the over distortion of songs, accepting and loving first takes and instincts, creating and recording on low amounts of sleep and basically making the whole process as difficult as possible. Comfort sacrificed in an effort to hopefully grab from these awkward, drained and manic places and bring an element of them to the surface.
It all sounds so negative, but to be honest......it was quite fun. Sloven was an interesting experience to say the least. Who knows if any of it is a success or not. It could have all been a waste of time and all those struggles were just for the sake of struggling. Just try to listen a little bit and it will hopefully be more clear. Slapping instinct to stubbornness, pushing skyways to trenches. This album is a pile of surprises. Quite the change to feel the bounds of this one go.
Thanks to my family.
